Looking for a new desk? Look no further. No further than the bottom of this page, at least. And do read the other items on your way down. They’re good stuff.
Future Opera
What is the protocol for wearing Google Glass in public? This week I saw my first public Glass wearer on the Victoria Line and there was something really seedy about it. I’d say take them off. Pop them in your bag. Hang them from the neck of your shirt like a cool cat.
What has this got to do with opera? Well, singers, musicians and stagehands from Sardinian opera company Teatro Lirico di Cagliari are now wearing Glass during performances, so audiences can see the show from loads of angles. And then they presumably take them off for the journey home. Neat, huh?
GIFS
Everyone loves GIFs, but the same old moving cat images are getting tiring. Why not try these instead?
Scorpion Dagger, AKA James Kerr, makes these GIFs mainly from early renaissance paintings. He tries to upload one every day, so it’s a good source of entertainment.
Look at yourself
Designer Sebastian Errazuriz has made a desk that lets you gaze at your reflection all day long. It’s called ‘The Narcissus Desk’ and is apparently inspired by Caravaggio’s painting of the vain young man.
I mean, it is essentially just a table (which is late 19th century, he didn’t even make it himself) with a mirrored top, and I don’t think that angle is anyone’s best. But it’s still a nice desk.
